On the occasion of pride month, a live session was organized in collaboration with Laksh organization to have a conversation about a rather sensitive topic in our society, LGBTQ community. The main guests of the live session were Jerry Jigs (representing the gay community), Reshma Kuvar (representing kinnar community), Devanshi Bajaj (Transwoman). They were also aided by Akriti Patel (Transgender) who has worked at Laksh for 6 years now
The live session began with greetings and with the critique of the lockdown and how they were feeling about it. The conversation moved forward as they were asked about their early childhood and how they came to realize what they were and how they accepted it, Devanshi shared their personal experience as she explained how she felt attraction towards boys in their early life, they also shared their school and college experience as they were treated with certain hostility, and how their friends used to tell them that it was not normal to act like this.
Sooner than later they accepted themselves as they thought fit and are now pleasantly happy with the lifestyle they follow and how the similar kind of people around them from the LGBTQ community support them. The discussion then moved onto how the policies should be to accept the LGBTQ community in the society with open arms, they discussed how it is a little uncomfortable to just fill either male or female into some form on which also they are judged by people around them. They proposed how government policies should give equal status to trans people.
The live session concluded with a final note from Aakriti Patel to the viewers that are to accept yourself as you are, not to fight your feelings, then the society should also accept you.
